Palmer leaving the farm

I got an email from Palmer last night that made me think of anything funny story where my dad would just never let one of my friends forget about something stupid they had done.  We were probably 16 or 17 at the time and Andrew had stopped by the farm where I was doing my chores that dad.  Dad and I were standing by the milk house and Palmer backed out of the driveway.  When he got on the road, he forgot to put it in drive and like most kids that age, we like to take off faster than we should.  He hit the gas and expecting to be pushed back in his seat as the car moved forward, he was whiplashed as the car when backwards.  What made this even funnier was that he was waving to us at the time.  So he only had one hand on the wheel which makes it that much tougher to balance oneself.

Needless to say, I think my dad brought this up to Palmer almost every time he saw him.  “You learn how to drive yet?” or “Have you learned to backup yet?” were the most likely questions asked of Palmer from my dad.
